Mug Shot # 17 - Kathleen (Kat) “Dogs” Coy

If you are a fan of Karin Jurick, you know she paints mugs shots... real mugs shots she finds on the internet.  Maria Bennett Hock, who had taken Karin's workshop in 2011, came up with the idea of doing mugs of Karin's students and opened it up to the class.  It was a great success.   So in our  "continuing education" program from Karin "Quick Draw" Jurick's November 2012 Hilton Head workshop the class agree they wanted to try another round of class mugs.  Wanda Rottenfusser took over the task.  She took mug shots of everyone then sent out one each week.  She's posted the finished mugs on the 2012 Hilton Head Caper Blog.  Each posting has been made even more special with the wonderful write-ups she has done for each person.

Somehow April seemed to get away from me, but I'm happy to report that I'm still working away on them.   I love that I am seeing improvement.  It is true you need practice to improve. You would think after all this time it get easier. Not so much!

WANTED
Kathleen (Kat) Coy, also known as (aka) "Dogs"

Kat Coy, 4x4", oil on gessobord

Supervisor Wanda's report on muggle #17:
Beware the Ides of March!  They have come but not yet gone so all things are possible.
Kathleen (Kat) “Dogs” Coy is a felon with a mission.  On Day 230 of a year long vendetta to render all things in paint, “Dogs” has shown a clear preference for, well, dogs.  Her website and blog is littered with canines  immortalized in paint.  Until her momentous meeting with “Quickdraw” Jurick last fall very few humans were victims.  That has changed dramatically.  She has since been depicting her fellow felons as well as vintage mugshots of women we can only assume are role models for all things nefarious.
“Dogs” has been gaining notoriety on the art scene by garnering the top prize at the Edward Hopper House exhibition in New York last year and has ventured into videos (check out UTube).  Is nothing beyond the reach of the sisterhood?
“Dogs” is often seen hiking and biking in the hills and cornfields of Iowa so keep your brushes at the ready and your dogs on a leash (we are not in Kansas any more, Toto).

Mug #13 - Sue Grant Church

Another ‘muggle’ for you.   The Hilton Head Caper mugs shots are still a big challenge but interesting & a great learning experience.  Many kudos to Wanda for the wonderfully creative write ups she's done for all of suspects in the Hilton Head Caper and posting the mugs for us.

WANTED
Sue Grant, aka 'Doc' or 'Needles'

Known to be Armed & Dangerous

Sue Church, oil on 4x4" gessoboard

LEAD # 13 FROM SUPERVISOR WANDA ROTTENFUSSER CONCERNING 'DOC'.

Egad!  We have word that another of the notorious Hilton Head felons has a Canadian connection, eh!  Sue “Doc” Church Grant claims to have a Canadian birth certificate but an American passport.  One is immediately suspicious since Canadian passports are highly coveted by international bad guys.  It appears her felonious activities are rooted much closer to home.
“Doc”, not unlike one of her fellow felons, has infiltrated the medical profession to get closer to her prey.  By her own admission, she enjoys capturing children.  We speculate she pokes and prods them and engages them in conversation.  She also immortalizes them in paint and we know she has displayed them in CAPE FEAR.  This is truly shocking!
Although “Doc” claims to have left the more heinous aspects of this practice behind we know she continues to capture victims in both oil and water.  She also exhibits with the Back Porch Painters.  Does this mean she has moved on to more senior victims?  Or are puppy and his rabbit sisters in mortal danger?  We can only watch and wait.

Mug #12- Jeanne Dicasali

Hilton Head Caper  - Mug #12.

Here is my new addition to the "Mug Shots" of members of Karin Jurick's 2012 Hilton Head Workshop.  If anyone is keeping track you may have noticed I skipped #11...which is a mug of me.  I'm putting it off until I get caught up.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Eyes continue to be a struggle for me compounded by painting these mugs on a 4x4" panel.  I tried to convince everyone we should wear sunglassses, but got voted down.  Of course that would not have helped me learn to paint eyes.  I'm happy to see improvement, proving once again practice really does make a difference!  Speaking of glasses, don't you love Jeanne's snazzy glasses.

Wanted

Jeanne, also known as (aka) “The Determinator”

Jeanne Dicasali, 4x4 oil on gessoboard

Lead # 12 from Supervisor Wanda Rottenfusser concerning the ‘De-terminator’:

Received notice that some sort of celebration went down on Ferry Road in Atlanta, Ga. on Wednesday. Neighbors reported people were singing and yelling Happy birthday Jeanne but we not sure what that was all about.

In fact, not much is known about Jeanne “The De-terminator” Dicasali, a relative newcomer to the sisterhood of felons.  This, of course,  leaves the field open for speculation.  We do know she is very focused  and determined but because she is unassuming often slips under the radar (a good trait to have as a felon).  But be cautious – crime, like art, is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration and the quiet ones can often rise to the top through sheer determination.

To enhance her public disguise, Jeanne began to draw as an adult signing up for drawing blogs and tutorials.  We even discovered a lovely little watercolor of cherries allegedly by her.  It appears she has now moved to oil and surveillance has shown her in the company  of Karin “Quickdraw” Jurick and the other Hilton Head felons.  Speculation is that she is likely to continue this practice.

She is also known to have international connections as her husband has been seen crossing the border into Canada often over the years.  We will stay alert in case this happens again.  She is not thought to be dangerous at this time but that could change.  Proceed with caution but proceed!

Mug #9 - Pepi aka Stephanie McNair

WANTED

Pepi, aka, Stephanie (The Dog Walker) McNair

Mug #9, Stephanie 'Pepi' McNair, 4x4" oil on gessobord

Lead # 9 from ‘Supervisor’ Wanda Rottenfusser concerning "The Dog Walker"  suspect in the Hilton Head Caper:

This week the hunt is on for the elusive Stephanie (The Dog Walker) McNair. Pepi, a favorite pseudonym, is one of two known felons who call Hilton Head home. One of the guises she has donned in the past to escape detection is that of Executive and Design Assistant for McNair Builders. We suspect this is a front for money laundering but it has yet to be proven.

We know she is a graduate of the Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida so is well trained in sleight of hand and producing magic with brush and paint. This can be seen in her numerous depictions of landscapes and seascapes. She does not often shoot humans but can be seen furtively skirting the marches and the beaches in the company of what appear to be guard dogs. We must pool our resources and work together to apprehend her. Remember, life should be a circus, not a lot of fools running around being clowns.

ART TIP:

I decided one way to ease into painting these 'portraits' was to purchase flesh tone paint so I would have base colors and not agonized over mixing flesh tones.  I read an art magazine article about 3 flesh colored paints used by a portrait artist who did beautiful work.  I hope I can find the article and credit the artist by name in a future post because it has made painting the mugs so much more fun for me.  I will go back to practicing mixing flesh tones again when I feel a bit more comfortable with these little paintings.

It is amazing how different each of the flesh tones colors are used by the artist yet to be named.  The paints are: Sennelier Blush Tint, Winsor & Newton Flesh Tint, and Gablin Flesh Tint.  The artist also used Sennelier warm gray and a cool gray plus black and  white

The Williamsburg Persian Rose in the picture was not part of the flesh tone palette.  It is a great color I was recommending to a friend.  Its a beautiful color and good for lots of things, but especially helpful to use in summer green landscapes, so they aren't so green.  Again, it was recommended in one of my many art books.  I will take better notes in the future!!
